Speakeasy: Confidential chic

The Speakeasy at Hotel Muse, Bangkok's favorite secret.

Mojito. It was the quick reply to the question “Which cocktail must a Speakeasy-virgin try?” Mojito, my favorite beach drink (and apparently has been enjoyed by many as early as the 16th century), it will be, though my standard in rating any watering hole and its mixologist is always through my preferred drink— the Whiskey Sour.

The Mojito in this joint certainly had the punch, maybe just how the Cubans must want it—a good kick of rhum before the sweetness of the sugarcane and refreshing mint flavor of the drink come chasing. I liked it. And, I liked it more that it was served with the spectacular 180-degrees view of the Bangkok skyline at night. It was as intoxicating as the drink in my hand. What a way to cap a day of exploring the Big Mango on foot. I wouldn’t want it any other way.

Intoxicating- the booze & the view from Speakeasy Terrace @ the 24th floor of Hotel Muse

This was at The Speakeasy at the Muse Hotel, a must-stay luxury hotel in Bangkok’s most desirable address, the Langsuan Road. It’s a popular high-rise hangout and a favorite stomping ground of the city’s chic set.

Within Speakeasy’s domain that encompasses the entire 24th and 25th floors of Hotel Muse are different types of watering holes—Long Bar, Terrace Bar, The Blind Pig cigar lounge, a rooftop bar, The Lawn, as well as a boardroom and three private rooms, “It’s Personal”, “Private Affair” and “Never Tell”—where guests can take pleasure in the bar’s exciting beverage offerings and gourmet bites.

The Speakeasy’s aura revolves around the concept of the dry movement of the 1920s in the US when sale, production and movement of alcohol were banned. Thus, clandestine joints sprouted, the speakeasies, for the Prohibition dodgers.

”During an era when many pleasures remained hidden, the confidential, sub rosa club allowed for indulgence without undue concern. In such a spirit, the speakeasy once thrived and in just the same does The Speakeasy at Hotel Muse return our pleasures to their rightfully elevated place,” shared Zack Tinwong, the Hotel Muse E-commerce Manager. “The atmosphere merges an internationally-inspired food-and-drink concept with Asian influences. Menus focus on gourmet dishes served in portions suitable for sharing and nibbling while one mingles and moves about. Top-shelf spirits and a large selection of wines including sparkling wines by the glass or bottle are served while guests enjoy the vistas and the vibe,” he added.

Yes, I did enjoy myself and loved the relaxed vibe. Chic place, good drinks, great Bangkok vista and fab music by DJ spinning house, this in one speakeasy that shouldn’t—and couldn’t— remain confidential. Everyone should know about this joint.

The Speakeasy is at the 24th and 25th floors of Hotel Muse Bangkok at 55/555 Langsuan Road, Lumpini, Pathumwan, Bangkok, Thailand.
