Nirvana

The days in Singapore were filled with new discoveries very pleasing to both the eyes and the palate. Singapore may be a “small city” but its surprises are endless, new must-see sites arise and from its diverse cuisine, a cornucopia of the sumptuous must-taste dishes. Fulfilled and exhausted, the visit to nirvana was the perfect ending to another exciting tour of the Lion City.

Nirvana is at the Mandarin Oriental Singapore’s indulgent and intimate Spa. Since its recent unveiling, The Spa already achieved recognition and has been awarded 'Five Star' status in the 2012 Forbes Travel Guide.

It was great to catch up with Mandarin Oriental’s Director of Communications, Usha Brockman, who told me of this exciting news prior to this visit. On this trip, she had me experience a luxurious journey in their sanctuary of healing, relaxation and calm.

“The Spa’s stunning space at the hotel’s fifth floor was designed by award-winning and renowned hospitality interior design firm, AB Concept. The contemporary interiors pay homage to traditional design by using a natural palette of warm earth tones, with touches of purple and red. The reception area features a peaceful cloud silhouette motif, with multiple layers that are lit from below. This calming image is seen throughout the spa,” Usha said, and addad,” Lacquered panels, crafted to resemble louvered shutters, line the walls and subtle lighting, suffuses the interiors in a dreamy glow. Natural wood finishes and mosaic tiles stand out against crafted glass screens and mother-of-pearl accents, creating a delicate landscape of contrasting textures.”

The intimate spa facilities include six treatment rooms, including two couples’ suites, a separate manicure-pedicure section, a reflexology area, a tea lounge for relaxation and one-to-one consultation areas.

Usha offered me one of the luxurious private Spa Suites that allow guests to share a therapeutic experience in a private, healing sanctuary and provide a deep sense of relaxation and bliss for the body, soul and mind. Even though I was alone, it was the VIP Treatment Suite for me with its features couples’ vitality pool and luxurious couples’ steam shower in bamboo-inspired marble.

“Mandarin Oriental, Singapore’s unique and holistic spa provides guests with a luxurious, sensory and therapeutic experience, that is truly personalized,” said General Manager, Paul Jones.

The Spa offer a range of relaxing and results driven treatments, including the Group’s Signature Therapies and product line. Developed in consultation with specialists in traditional Chinese medicine and master aroma therapists, Mandarin Oriental's Signature Therapies originate from Oriental philosophy, and combine the relaxing effects of massage with the benefits of bespoke custom-blended essential oils. Mandarin Oriental’s signature product line has been developed specifically for the Group by the award-winning UK based company, Aromatherapy Associates. Each aromatherapy-based product has been created according to the oriental principles of five elements: wood, fire, earth, metal and water. The products, which include a range of candles and travel-size oils, are also available for purchase, so that guests can continue using specific blends at home.

For my holistic treatment, I was given the “Teh Hijau,” a one hour and fifty minutes of all over body treatment designed to work on stiff, tight, fatigued muscles and joints and stimulating the blood circulation throughout the body. An antioxidant, green tea infused poultice combined with the essential oils of sacred frankincense, comforting mandarin and warm ginger will melt any stress and transform the mind and body.
