After a quick visit to Tokyo, I was on board a northbound train for Isesaki in the Gunma Prefecture. What was pulling me to the place? It's this: “If you want to see the old Japan, you’ll find it in Gunma.” I wouldn't dare miss this chance.
Like Tokyo, Gunma is in the Kanto region. But both differ in their vibe and scene—Tokyo is urban, while Gunma is rural, surrounded by mountains and blessed with hot springs. Hot springs! This, I will luxuriate in.

Isesaki is the fastest-growing city in Gunma. Its population is multiracial, with the presence of immigrants from Brazil, Peru, India, and Pakistan in the area.
As the train sped to the destination, lights along the tracks became sparse. Alighting at Isesaki at sundown, fresh air and a peaceful rustic scene were the warm welcome on a chilly autumn evening.

The first order of the evening was dinner and a tour of the city at night. A hot home-cooked meal was waiting for me at my host's home. Soon after, we hit the bar for a few shots of warm sake. This trip was going to be fun. I felt it. I knew it.
